Akagera national park covers an area of 2,500 km on a relatively low altitude bordering Tanzania and scarcely more different than the cultivated hills characteristic of Rwanda.
It is a place to be for safaris with its complex mix of terrains, marshland, lakes, vegetation and animal life plus conducive climate that offers an enchanting and adventurous environment.
It offers various activities such as game viewing to see big mammals like buffaloes, elephants, zebras, giraffes and antelopes that emerge from the woodland to drink water at the lakes. on a good day you might come across the leopard, spotted hyena or lion. There is also the chestnut-coaled Impala, oribi, bushbuck, ungainly tsessebe and cape eland.
Take a boat ride on the calm Lake Ihema to see hippos and crocodiles. This park inhabits more than 525 species of birds such as shoebill stork and papyrus gonolek.The Jacanas, herons, sandpipers, plovers and ibis are among the endemic species.
The park offers various water activities and sports, game drives, bird watching and a wide range of recreational activities.
