Nyungwe Chimpanzees National Park

This is the largest afromontane forest declared a national park across the majestic hills south east of Rwanda bordering Burundi. It is four hours drive from Kigali town to the park.

The forest is well endowed with a variety of tree species, flowering plants, orchids and giant lobelia.
Nyungwe is famous for up to 13 species of primates among which includes the chimpanzees, colobus monkeys and L’hoest’s monkey. For the bird lovers there are different species of birds such as the blue turaco, green and red birds that keep moving around and Nyungwe water falls which gives a splendid scenic view.

The various well maintained walking trails offer opportunities for trekking chimpanzees and varieties of primates, guided nature walks and bird watching.
